Christopher ferrying the Christchild - Kefermarkt, Upper Austria

            Some 25 years ago now, I came across a similar photo in a book called "Verborgene Schönheit" ("Hidden Beauty") by the Austrian photographer and ski-pioneer Stefan Kruckenhauser.  He had covered vast distances on a bicycle to document  Austrian landscape, architecture and art with his Leica in the late 1940s.  The book was inspiring.  In the meantime I have had the privilege of spending many hours in front of this wonderful 15th Century alterpiece with my Pentaxes.  Note the way the artist ("der Meister des Kefermarkter Altars") has used the light from the side-windows to highlight the features of his subject. This is one of my earliest efforts on this theme, taken with the good old Pentax K-200 and my lovely SMC FA 135mm f:2.8 [IF] lens.  Long exposure to take advantage of the modelling of the figures by the available light. Cropped.
